USAID is contributing to the fight against MDR-TB (Multiple Drug Resistant Tuberculosis) through the MSH Project which is being carried out by the Strengthening Pharmaceutical Systems division. in conjunction with Brazil's National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory (Centro de Referência Professor Hélio Fraga). One goal of this project is to develop management systems for the monitoring of drug-resistant TB. Other activities include monitoring drug quality, implanting laboratory quality control systems, developing and promoting the use of fixed drug combination products, and implementing re-treatment regimen changes based on evidence.
