RECIFE, October 14, 2009 - During the first week of October, USAID/Brazil Youth Employment Program’s Activity Manager, Alisson Nascimento, participated in a meeting with Petrobrás, Brazilian largest company, Government of Pernambuco representatives, and the US Consul in Recife. The meeting aimed to discuss new public-private partnership opportunities to strengthen and expand the Enter Jovem Youth Employability, Technology, and English Language Program supported by USAID.
Sponsored by the Government of Pernambuco, Petrobrás is in charge of building a petrol-chemical complex, to make it a global hub in the industry in the next five years. Considering the great demand for skilled labor, mainly with English Language knowledge, Petrobrás showed interest in becoming USAID’s partner with additional resources to expand the Enter Jovem Program to municipalities in the refinery’s region.
Also in Recife meetings were held with the USAID implementing partner in Pernambuco and with State government representatives, to discuss the implementation and monitoring planning of the Enter Jovem Program in the next 18 months.
