SALVADOR, October 21, 2009 – On October 21, Stuart Ishamaru, acting Chairman of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), visited the USAID funded Enter Jovem project at the Costa e Silva high school in the Ribeira neighborhood of Salvador.

In Salvador to chair a session at the U.S. Brazil Joint Action Plan to Eliminate Racism and Promote Equality (JAPER) conference, Mr. Ishamura took the opportunity to learn about the program, tour school facilities, meet with the school’s principal, and to interact with program students and educators.

Enter Jovem is Implemented in the State of Bahia by the USAID partner American Institutes for Research. Approximately 400 youth from 10 public schools in Salvador are being trained to enter the formal labor market. The Enter Jovem Program is funded through a partnership between USAID/Brazil, State governments, as well as the private sector, and is planned to expand to three other states in the next year.
