BRASILIA, October 29, 2009 - On October 29, 22 youth ages 16-24, from 16 Brazilian states received their signed work papers under a first employment initiative for youth living with HIV/AIDS. Following the three-day training session that took place in Brasília, youth will perform an 11-month internship in state STI/AIDS Programs, selected NGOs, and public health units that provide counseling and direct services to people living with HIV/AIDS.
The Youth+ initiative aims to enhance the strategic participation of people living with HIV/AIDS in the development and implementation of government and non-governmental programs that integrate the Brazilian response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The initiative is supported by USAID, Pact/Brazil, the National STI/AIDS Department, UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNIFEM, UNODC, and UNFPA.
