BELEM, October 29, 2009 - Every year, the USAID/Brazil environment team recognizes individuals and organizations who have distinguished themselves in the performance of USAID funded activities contributing to the sustainable management and integrity of the forest and indigenous lands of the Brazilian Amazon region.
This year the environment team was honored to award the following individuals and organizations:
* Firefighter Major Alessandro Mariano Rodrigo
* Enrico Bernardo from World Vision
* Luzia Santos da Silva leader of the Rural Workers Union in Boca do Acre (Amazonas state)
* Manuel Amaral Neto from the Instituto Internacional de Educação do Brasil
* Paulo Henrique Coelho Amaral from Instituto do Homem e Meio Ambiente da Amazônia (Imazon)
* Vanderleide Ferreira de Souza from the National Rubber Tappers’ Council (CNS – Lábrea, Amazonas state)
* Vasco Van Roosmalen from the Amazon Cooperation Team (ACT/Brazil)
* Coordenação das Organizações Indígenas da Amazônia Brasileira (COIAB)
