Partners

  • World Vision (WV) Lead Partner
  • Operação Amazônia Nativa (OPAN)

The Aldeias Project aims to conserve Amazon terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems within indigenous lands and their buffer zones. By investing in the conservation of forest cover in indigenous areas, the program will also help maintain regional rainfall and build resilience to climate change, thus ensuring a healthy Amazon that continues to regulate climate regionally and globally.

The goal of this project is to markedly improve the status of conservation of biodiversity and physical integrity of indigenous lands in focus areas of the Brazilian Amazon. Aldeias project works with Katukina, Deni and Paumari Indigenous Peoples with a view to achieve:

1) Improved biodiversity conservation and natural resources management; and

2) Strengthened organizational capacity and empowered indigenous leaders able to actively participate in the shared management of landscape mosaics encompassing indigenous lands and their buffer areas.
